Blepharoplasty

Overview

Blepharoplasty is otherwise known as eye lift or eyelid surgery. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, blepharoplasty is the surgical removal of excess skin and fat from the eyelids and orbital space. It helps improve the eyes' outlook and can be used to treat eye conditions like droopy eyelids.

Blepharoplasty is done on either the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both. It depends on your target beauty goals and that of your aesthetic surgeon.

If you want eyes that catch everyone's attention, then blepharoplasty is for you.

Am I a suitable candidate for this operation?

Before you can get a blepharoplasty done, your aesthetic surgeon will make sure that;

  • You have no serious medical condition that can interfere with the surgery or hinder healing.
  • You do not have an eye condition that can interfere with the surgery.

After your aesthetic surgeon has confirmed that you are healthy to have a blepharoplasty, your surgeon will ask you about your goals for the surgery. You can have blepharoplasty done if you have one or more of the following;

  • Saggy upper eyelids
  • Wrinkled and excess skin in your eyelids
  • If you have lost the normal contour of your eyelids
  • Droopy lower eyelids
  • If you want to improve your look and self-image.

What Can this operation Give You?

Aging and the effect of gravity on the skin can give you droopy or sagging eyelids. There could also be an accumulation of fat underneath your eyelids. If you have any of these, do not panic. Blepharoplasty can help restore your beauty and youth.

Blepharoplasty can give you all of these, including;

  • Correct loose or saggy skin in your upper eyelids that can sometimes interfere with your vision.
  • Give you back the natural contouring of your eyelids.
  • Correct puffy eyes due to the fat deposition underneath your eyelids.
  • Remove bags under your eyes.
  • Correct droopy lower eyelids.
  • Remove wrinkles and excess skin in your lower eyelids.
Stages of Blepharoplasty
Perioperative

It is a preparatory phase for the surgery. In HospitalXp, before you have a blepharoplasty procedure done, our aesthetic surgeon will ask you relevant questions about your worries, expectations, and general wellbeing. Our surgeons will also examine your eyes and ask you to do tests to confirm whether you are healthy enough to undergo surgery.

Our doctors may also review some of your medications and tell you to stop smoking in preparation for the surgery.

Intraoperative

The operation is performed under general anesthesia or with intravenous sedation, depending on your health status and our doctor's opinion of what is best for you.

After you are put to sleep, a cut is made on the crease in your upper eyelid. Through this incision, our expert surgeons at HospitalXp can remove fat and excess skin and tighten the muscles of your upper eyelids.

An incision can be made in your lower eyelids to fix your lower eyelid problems. Our surgeons can also employ a transconjunctival incision to treat your lower eyelid problems.

Our surgeons can then remove fat and excess skin and tighten the loose lower eyelid muscles from the cut.

After the surgery's aim has been achieved, sutures or skin glue are used to close the incision.

Postoperative

It is the recovery period. Immediately after the surgery, you go to a recovery room where prescribed ointments and a cold compress are applied to your eyes. They help to hasten your recovery from the surgery. You will most likely be allowed to go home on the same day.

However, Our surgeons will advise you to;

  • Use a cold compress on the eye regularly.
  • Apply prescribed ointments on the eye.
  • Wear dark-tinted sunglasses to protect your eyes from sunlight and wind.

You should be able to go about your business in 10-14days after the surgery. In a few months, the scar from the surgery will disappear, and you will be able to see the world with youthful and bright eyes again.
