Facial Procedure

Facial fat grafting

Overview

Facial fat grafting is an operation to rejuvenate facial contours and volume, provide natural-looking results, and give long-term benefits. Facial volume loss, which often occurs due to aging, tends to be more noticeable around the eyes, jawlines, and cheeks. Autologous fat transfer to the face reduces the most common signs of aging and rebuilds facial volume with fatty tissue, resulting in a natural appearance. Common treatment areas include:

  • Nasolabial folds (between the nose and lips).
  • Lines between the lips and chin.
  • Cheeks.
  • Sagging jaw.
  • Hollows under the eyes.

The Techniques Mainly used in Facial fat grafting operation:

Autologous facial fat grafting technique: it is a simple natural surgery to transfer fat from the area of the body where it is abundant to the face to restore its volume. The fat is gently removed using modern liposuction techniques and then prepared for injection into the face.

Stages of Facial fat grafting Operation
Perioperative

Before the operation, the surgeon marks the recipient sites depending on the patient's needs. Then, sterilization of the donor sites and the recipient sites are required.

Intraoperative

A facial fat grafting is a two-step surgery that includes liposuction and injection.

  • Anesthesia: usually, the surgeon uses local anesthesia when the fat required is small.
  • Liposuction: initially, the plastic surgeon will perform liposuction to remove fat, likely coming from the hips, flanks, or abdomen.
  • Purification: once the doctor removes the fat, it will be purified and prepared for injection.
  • Injection: different injection techniques and angles are used to provide high rates of immersion into the skin and create the symmetry and appearance desired. Then, the fat will be grafted to the cheeks, lips, and/or under the eyes to create volume and correct lines and facial pits.
  • Close the incisions: after the fat is injected, the incisions will be sutured and cleaned.
Postoperative

The recovery period depends on the amount of fat removed and transferred. The patient should spend at least two weeks resting and recovering. After the operation, you should follow these instructions:

  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight for at least six weeks.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Avoid using cosmetics and make-up.
  • Avoid using commercial shampoo and soap.
  • Avoid using boiling water.
